For the 29th year in a row on the third Saturday in April, the streets of Raymond were lined with tots in strollers, children waving American flags, parents and grandparents seated on lawn chairs, and some in the beds of pickup trucks. The event drawing them was the annual Raymond Parade and Family Fun Days.
Grand Marshals Nancy and Willard Parksion, long time residents, were joined by their children, grandchildren and great grandchild in the parade. The unincorporated area of Raymond welcomed visitors from surrounding communities as well as Salinas and San Joaquin Valley towns.
The parade included equestrian entries, rodeo princesses, antique cars and 4 x 4 vehicles. Cal Fire, volunteer fire and the Madera County Sheriff’s office as well as the Raymond 4-H Club and Community Church and the Raymond Granite Company were also represented in the parade. The Community Dance and Theater crew won the youth award for their dance routine inspired by Disney’s “Newsies.”
