Beginning in April, dates have been set for Mountain Area schools’ kindergarten and transitional kindergarten enrollment.
Children who are five years of age by Sept. 1, 2015 qualify for entry into kindergarten. If your child will turn five between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, they may register for transitional kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year.
Parents are asked to bring the child’s birth certificate (or copy), immunization records, and proof of residence (utility bill, rent receipt, or property tax statement) to enrollment appointments.
Spring Valley Elementary School
Spring Valley will hold its kindergarten round-up 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., Thursday, April 9. The Kindergarten teacher, school nurse, and speech therapist will be a part of the registration process.
Contact Spring Valley School, (559) 868-3343 ext. 0 to schedule an appointment. Once an appointment is set-up, a registration packet will be sent to you, these forms must be completed and brought to the appointment.
Rivergold Elementary School
Kindergarten enrollment packets are available for parents to pick up in the Rivergold School office from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m, beginning March 9. (Packets will not be sent home with siblings). Parents are asked to fill out the paperwork and return the completed packet to the office right away.
Upon receipt of the packet, you will be given a screening appointment for your child. The date of the screening is Thursday, April 30.
Students must also have a physical and a dental exam, and verification of TB test indicating results (the test must e dated on or after Aug. 1, 2014). Students who do not have all the required paperwork complete will not begin school on the first day.

Wasuma Elementary School
Wasuma will hold its kindergarten and transitional kindergarten enrollment Thursday, April 30. Parents can pick up enrollment packets after April 7. These completed packets can be returned before or on enrollment day. No appointment is necessary. The parent/student will meet with a kindergarten teacher, speech pathologist, school nurse, and school principal.

Raymond Knowles Elementary
Kindergarten registration will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 6. A packet will be given to parents at the appointment, which they can complete and return at a later date.

Coarsegold Elementary School
Kindergarten round-up will be held April 21.
Kindergarten enrollment packets will be ready for pick-up after March 12, from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the school office. When packets are picked-up, a time will be assigned to bring back the completed packet on April 21 to complete registration.

Oakhurst Elementary School
The date of the round-up is 8 - 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 22, in the school library. A Spanish translator will be onsite from 8 - 11:30 a.m., and registration packets can be completed onsite.
Parents and child will rotate through the following stations during visit: kindergarten assessment, Anne Guynn and Karen Forbes; immunization information, county nurse Dustin Ginter; registration information, office manager Nicole Meeker; kindergarten curriculum and readiness skills, Laura Jeffris; and transitional kindergarten information, principal Kathleen Murphy.
OES offers a full-day kindergarten program from 8 a.m. - 2:20 p.m, Monday - Friday. A transitional kindergarten program will also be offered.
Mountain Area Head Start
The Madera Regional Head Start preschool program is accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year.
Children must be three years of age by Sept. 1, 2015. Head Start provides a comprehensive, high-quality service designed to foster healthy development for income eligible children and families. The program focuses on increasing the social competence of young children, three to four years of age, in Madera County.
Services include early childhood education, medical and dental screening and follow-up, services to children with disabilities, social skills, nutrition and family services.
You will need to provide the following documents: your child’s birth certificate, immunization records (must be up-to-date), Medi-cal or other insurance card, and family income verification for 12 months (tax return, W-2s, Passport to Services, Social Security, TANF, etc).
