The No. 4 seeded Yosemite High girls basketball team (18-9, 9-1 NSL) defeated No. 12 seed Selma (19-9, 8-2) 59-40 Feb. 26, in the Central Section D-II playoffs. The Badgers will now face the No. 1 seed Independence High School (24-2, 10-0 South Yosemite League) in Bakersfield in the semi-final round at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 3.
Independence, ranked No. 6 in the state for D-II schools (90th in state for all schools), easily defeated No. 8 seed Lemoore (No. 8 seed) 57-33 to advance to the game against Yosemite.
Independence is a two-hour drive from Oakhurst: 99 south to Panama Lane - Turn right (west) on Panama Land and then left on Old River Road.
In other D-II play-off games Tuesday, No. 3 seed Redwood defeated No. 6 seed Monache 81-56, and No. 2 seed Sierra beat No. 7 seed Bakersfield 52-49. The two winners will play March 3, in the other semi-finale game. The D-II championship game will be played at 6 p.m., Friday, March 6, at Fresno’s Selland Arena.
In Thursday’a game against Selma, Taylor Burrall was the game’s high scorer with 22. Additional Badger points came from Veronica Miller (11), Allie Stearns (10), Jessica Rudd (5), Mattaya Brown (4), Ashlee Harrell (4), and Lynette Combs (3).
