The Eastern Madera County Chamber of Commerce Foundation has announced that candidates are now being sought for the 2015 Oakhurst Honorary Mayor’s campaign - the 20th campaign since Gary Pence won the first race in 1996.
Over the years, the campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mountain Area non-profit organizations. Candidates will compete for the title, while raising funds for their chosen non-profit organization.
The kick-off for this year’s campaign will be April 17, and the campaign will run through June 26.
The 2014 Honorary Mayor is Mat Sands, who raised $8,600 for the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst. Michael Costa raised $6,500 for the Little Church on the Hill, and Zona Cahill helped the Sierra Senior Society by raising $1,200.
Applications to enter the Honorary Mayor’s race are available at the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce office, 40637 Highway 41. The deadline for submitting an application is Thursday, April 2. Anyone passionate about a Mountain Area non-profit organization is encouraged to gather friends and supporters, and enter the race.
