Zealous crab lovers unite - your day has arrived - what has become one of the premier events of the year, the 29th Annual Rotary Crab Feed, starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Oakhurst Community Center.
A large crowd, with melted butter in hand, is expected to consume about 1,400 pounds of dungeness crab, 70 pounds of pasta, 60 pounds of tossed green salad, 125 loaves of French bread, and five sheets of cake for dessert.
In addition to the food, close to 100 gifts valued at more than $10,000 have been donated by Mountain Area merchants to be raffled off to lucky ticket holders. Prizes include four new tires from Sullivans Tire Pros, a high definition 40” Samsung SmartTV and Kenmoore four burner LP gas grill from Oakhurst Sears, and a round of golf for four at Sierra Meadows, along with weekends get-a-ways.
“This is an event you do not want to miss,” said Susan Madden, president of the Oakhurst Sierra Rotary Club. “There is so much going on that night - great food, a spectacular raffle, and a fun crowd - with all the proceeds supporting high school scholarships, youth programs, and other community service projects.”
Tickets cost $45 per person, and will be available at the door or in advance by calling Doug Dearing, (559) 658-0300, or Bob Brosi, (559) 683-4694.
