The free community Christmas dinner the “Outpouring” is about a month away and food teams, volunteers, table sponsors and entertainment are still needed. Last year, about 100 volunteers celebrated the true meaning of Christmas by decorating, preparing meals and serving an estimated 400 adults and children.

A book launch/signing party will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7 at Branches Books in Oakhurst for Jennifer Moss’ third novel, Taking the Rap, which will come out at the end of the month.

Holiday Art Tour
A three day Holiday Art Tour will be held at various locations throughout Madera County. The tour will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 and will run through Sunday, Nov. 23 at various times and locations. Maps and schedules are available upon requests.

Lt. Commander Adams retires
On Friday, Nov. 14 California Highway Patrol Lieutenant Commander Sandra Adams of the Oakhurst center officially retired from her services in the Mountain Area.
Adams served the Mountain Area since the Oakhurst Area CHP office opened 11 years ago. She came to the Mountain Area from Los Angeles County after 17 years throughout the state of California including services in San Jose and Napa Valley.
Adams successor should be announced within the next few months.
Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast
The annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast with Santa will be held 7:30-11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Oakhurst Community Center. Adults are $6, children 12 and under $3, and children under 5, free.
Sierra Star error
The Sierra Star regrets the errors in the Nov. 13 front page story, “Chukchansi faction proposes agreement.” The newspaper has recently upgraded its computer system, and there have been some glitches in the transition from the old program to the new program.
