Alzheimer’s Disease/Dementia group

Valley Caregiver Resource Center will hold an Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group, from 10-11:30 a.m., Nov. 25, Dec. 9, and Dec. 23, at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church. This group is open to the loved ones of a person with Alzheimer’s and Dementia who would like to exchange information, feelings, difficulties and more in a supportive environment.

KT-Lee Ranch Alpacas

KT-Lee Ranch Alpacas will hold their 10th annual Christmas on the Ranch Friday, Nov. 28, and Saturday, Nov. 29. Gates will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free admission. The alpaca ranch and boutique is located at 35625 Road 274 in North Fork.

Origami Christmas cards

The Oakhurst Library will host a workshop on making Origami Christmas cards, 10 - 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 15 in the community room. Participants will make three sculpted Christmas cards using the ancient art of folding paper into various shapes like a Christmas tree, snowflake, and Santa.

Anyone aged 11 and older is invited to participate, but the class is limited to the first 40 people to pre-register. All supplies will be provided.

Soroptimist Military Care Packages

The Soroptimist International of the Sierras will send free holiday gift packages to men and women who are in the armed services. Included in these packages are a Sierra Star newspaper, homemade goodies, gum, candies, and a holiday card from members of the organizations to remind our service personnel how much they are appreciated.

Send names and addresses of soldiers serving in the military in both the states or abroad to P.O. Box 41, Oakhurst, Calif. 93644 or email addresses to djforbes@sti.net, or text addresses to (559) 760-7335.

A deadline has been set for Dec. 4 for putting the packages together and shipping right afterward, so names and addresses must be received prior to that date.

Free Dental Day

The third annual Free Dental Day at Golden Hills Dental (formerly Coarsegold Dental) will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15 at 35344 Highway 41 in Coarsegold. The event will be held on a first come, first serve basis. Free cleanings, extractions, and fillings will be offered.

Homemade tamales

The Yosemite High School FFA will be selling homemade tamales to raise funds for state and national FFA competitions. Pre-orders will be taken Nov. 18 - Dec. 3. The shredded pork tamales are $18/dozen.

2015 Installation Dinner and Award Ceremony

The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce 2015 installation dinner and award ceremony will be held Jan. 16, 2015. The reception begins at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m., at Tenaya Lodge. Dinner is $40 per person, and a special room rate will be offered at $119. A round trip shuttle service will be available through Discover Yosemite.

The Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Business of the Year and Executive Director’s Award will be announced that evening. Information for reservations, special room rate codes and shuttle arrangements call chamber office.

Soroptimist Christmas craft show

A Christmas craft show sponsored by Soroptimist will be held 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., on Dec. 6 at the Mariposa Fairgrounds. Crafters will be showing off their skills and wares in two buildings. Unique handmade gifts and crafts - from art to handcrafted wood items - will be sold by more than 75 local crafters. You will find anything and everything for your Christmas list.

There is a daily door prize, and a raffle of various items and baskets. You do not need to be present to win.

Children’s Museum to host classes Saturday

The Children’s Museum of the Sierra will offer two programs Saturday, Nov. 15. Artist Wendy Fisher will lead students in an autumn art project from from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Rebecca Urbano and Jonathan Wharton, of Yosemite High School, will teach a Spanish class at 1 p.m.

Both programs are open to children of all ages and are free with admission or membership.
