Three car accident claims life of North Fork resident

A three car accident on Highway 41 claimed the life of Sophia Elise Ruiz, 18, of North Fork. The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, when Ruiz, who was traveling northbound on Highway 41 near Road 209, in a 2007 Toyota Yaris, crossed over the center divider. According to California Highway Patrol, the Toyota clipped the front left side of a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer heading in the southbound lane of Highway 41.

According to CHP reports, the Toyota continued in the southbound lane, striking a 2004 Subaru Forester head-on.

Austin Martindale, of Santa Cruz, the driver of the Subaru, sustained major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Rachel Martinez, the driver of the Blazer, was uninjured in the accident.

The collision remains under investigation.
