Plans are that Crane Valley Road (426) - the main route between Oakhurst and North Fork - will be open to through traffic tonight Friday, Sept. 19. Road 426 between Summit Road and Road 223 has been closed to everyone but residents because of the Courtney Fire, which is 90% contained as of early Friday morning.
Total fire personnel on scene are 490, 30 homes were destroyed, four were damaged, 19 outbuildings were destroyed, three were damaged, 13 vehicles were destroyed, two were damaged, and four recreational vehicles were destroyed.
Areas outside the control lines will be closely monitored for any new spot fires, and the crews will continue mopping up and looking for hot spots within containment lines. Interior portions of the fire may produce smoke.
The estimated cost of the Courtney Fire is more than $3 million.
Cal Fire, in cooperation with the Madera County Sheriff’s Department has identified the person believed to be responsible for starting the Courtney Fire. The case has been handed over to the Madera County District Attorney's Office for investigation.
