Head-on collision closes Highway 41 on Saturday

At 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, Highway 41 in Coarsegold was closed for more than a hour, north of Yosemite Springs Parkway, due to a head-on collision.

Sean Heath, 19, of Oakhurst was driving his 2006 Nissan Altima northbound on Highway 41, north of Yosemite Springs Parkway. Michael Willis of Madera was driving his 2006 Dodge Dakota southbound.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Heath removed his seatbelt to adjust his shirt, which was causing him discomfort at the time. While adjusting his shirt, he allowed his vehicle to cross over the solid double-yellow lines, directly into the path of Willis, resulting in a head-on collision.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene and began managing one-way alternating traffic until more traffic lanes could be cleared.

Sierra Ambulance transported both parties to Community Regional Medical Center-Fresno for medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
