Coarsegold man dies in solo vehicle accident

On Thursday, Aug. 28, at about 1:54 p.m., a 41-year-old Coarsegold resident died in a solo vehicle accident on Road 200 east of Butterfield Road in O’Neals.

Bryan Patrick Higgins was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion, traveling eastbound on Road 200 at a high-rate-of speed, when the vehicle drifted to the right. While trying to over-correct to the left, he lost control, the car veered across both lanes, and exited the roadway before rolling several times.

According to the California Highway Patrol, because he was not restrained, he was fully ejected, dying at the scene. His wife, a 32-year-old Coarsegold resident, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Saint Agnes in Fresno.

The CHP, Madera County Sheriff/Coroner, Cal Fire, Sierra Ambulance and Madera County roads personnel responded to the scene. Road 200 east of Butterfield Road was closed for approximately 30 minutes.

The exact cause of this accident remains under investigation.

The family requests that everyone slow down and always remember to buckle seatbelts.
