Madera County sheriff’s deputies were called out to the Bass Fork Mini Mart in North Fork late Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 13) with reports that a shoulder bag filled with ammunition, magazines, and possibly a grenade had been dropped off outside the market, located off Road 200.
At 5:49 p.m. there were approximately 10 to 13 people inside the store and they were evacuated as a precaution.
Deputies on scene quickly determined that it was a safe practice grenade, not a live fragmentation grenade.
Nevertheless, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office requested mutual aid to properly remove the device. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team took possession of it.
By 6:02 p.m. the store was re-opened for business.
