Body recovered from Fresno River identified

At about 8:15 a.m. Monday morning, Madera County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call about a body laying on the east bank of the Fresno River, 70 yards north of the Fresno River Bridge on Crane Valley Road (426). The deceased was identified as Lee Vick, 44, of Oakhurst.

Vick lived in Oakhurst for more than 20 years, and at one time was the owner of Lee’s Landscaping, where he managed several residential and business properties in the Mountain Area.

At the time of recovery, there were no apparent markings on the body that would indicate foul play. According to Madera County Sheriff John Anderson, Vick’s shoes, socks, shirt, and a hat were neatly placed next to him, and it appeared he had his feet in the water to cool off.

Vick’s sister, Brandy Grotewold-Alvey said the family was grieving over the loss.

“Lee was friendly, funny, and outgoing,” Grotewold-Alvey said. “He had many friends in the area which he cared deeply for. He will truly be missed.”

An unidentified female discovered Lee and notified a couple employees of Grant Mercantile Agency, who were arriving to work. One of employees immediately called 911.

Also responding to the call was Madera County Fire Station 12, and Madera County Search and Rescue who assisted in the recovery of the body. Vick was transported to Madera by Smith Manor Grace Chapel. As of Tuesday, an autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death.
