Yosemite National Park celebrates Law Day

From 10-2 p.m. Friday, May 2, the Yosemite National Park will celebrate its second annual Law Day on the Yosemite Valley School ball field adjacent to the Yosemite Valley School located at 9009 Lost Arrow Road in Yosemite Valley. The event will focus on the role of the rule of law in preserving and protecting our national parks. There will be remarks form U.S. Magistrate Michael Seng, other federal judges from the area, and attorneys. More than 300 students from the Yosemite area will attend the event.

The event is part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Yosemite Grant. This landmark law, signed by President Abraham Lincoln, on June 30, 1864, preserved Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias and ushered in the national park movement. There will be special appearances by Abraham Lincoln, John Muir, Galen Clark and Teddy Roosevelt.

Parking will be available on-site.
