Historic Yosemite climb

Yosemite National Park and Paradox Sports will be hosting a historic climbing event Sept. 9 - 12. Four groups of veteran climbers, all with some form of disability, will attempt four different iconic and difficult climbs in Yosemite National Park. The purpose of the event is to commemorate Sept. 11 through the accomplishments of these extraordinary veterans.

The two groups will head up the Mist Trail en route to Little Yosemite Valley. From there, one group will summit Half Dome via the cables and the other group will climb Snake Dike, a technical climbing route on the south slope of the dome. The other two groups will climb two technical routes on El Capitan.

“The aim of Paradox Sports is to provide personal, positive transformation through wilderness immersion and the challenge of hiking and climbing,” said Timmy O’Neill, a professional climber and the executive director of Paradox Sports. Other group leaders include professional climbers Heidi Wertz and climbing legend, Conrad Anker.

The event is a collaborative effort between Yosemite National Park and Paradox Sports. Several park employees, who are veterans themselves, will be joining the disabled veterans on their climb.
