Rim Fire update

The Rim fire north-east of Oakhurst has grown to more than 100,000 acres and continues its eastward spread along Packerd Canyon Road and Pilot Ridge. Structure defense continues for San Jose Camp, Spinning Wheel and Tawonga Camp as the fire moves up the middle fork of the Tuolumne River canyon.

More than 2,000 firefighting personnel, C-130 and DC-10 firefighting airtankers and helicopters are battling the blaze that as of Aug. 23 is only 2% contained. The fire has now crossed the Yosemite National Park boundary, although the park is still open.

Due to inaccessible, steep terrain, winds of up to 12 mph and active fire behavior a combination of ground and air attacks are being used on the fire.

Highway 120 is closed four miles west of Groveland Ranger Station and four miles east of Buck Meadows. Ferretti Road is also closed.
