Cal Fire responds quickly to fire off Road 426

A vegetation fire, pushed by moderate winds, quickly moved north from John West Road up a ravine parallel with Crane Valley Road (426) this afternoon. Fire crews have a hose line around the 20-acre fires and total containment is expected by 6 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol had Road 426 closed to traffic from John West Road to Dale Lane. The road was re-opened at 5 p.m.

Fire crews were quick to respond to the fire with a dozen Cal Fire, U.S. Forest Service, and county volunteer fire engines along with two water helicopters, two planes dropping fire retardant, three water tenders, two bulldozers and more than 50 strike team firefighters from U.S. forest Service and the Department of Corrections.

Although the fire got close to one home, no structures have burned and there have been no injuries from the blaze.

The fire was reported at 2:34 p.m. and the cause has yet to be determined.
