The Madera District Fair handbook is out featuring new contests such as the kids 2018 LEGO competition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the LEGO “brick.” Winners will receive an anniversary LEGO set along with a ribbon.
The fair is Sept. 6-9. Annually, the handbook highlights projects that county residents can undertake and enter in competitions including photos, recipes and more.
Other highlights this year:
▪ In celebration of the Get Hitched wedding, there’s a contest for a bridal bouquet to be tossed on the Patio Stage following the Sept. 8 nuptials. Lupe Martinez and Dezarea Pack won a contest to hold their wedding at the fair.
▪ Unique hobbies such as doodling can be entered in Doodly-Do.
▪ A fresh spin on the Billboard contest invites exhibitors to paint it live as the gates open Sept. 6, with a $150 cash award to the winner.
Live food judging returns with Homegrown Pie, Cupcake Wars, BBQ Ribs and Salsa.
“Entering items in the fair is as simple as this; get your hands on a book, find your contest, complete and return the form, bring the item and visit the fair to see your masterpiece on display,” Barbara Leach, events coordinator, says in a news release. “It’s wonderful to see returning competitors and new ones catch exhibit fever – this is an 80-year tradition and still running!”
Entry forms are due by Aug. 14. Exhibitor Handbooks can be found at www.maderafair.com or the Madera Fair Office.
