Library December events
The Oakhurst Branch Library, 49044 Civic Circle Dr., will host a matinee moving showing on Dec. 8 and a special guest will be stopping by during story time hour on Dec. 13 in the community room.
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is the movie slated to be shown starting at 3 p.m on Dec. 8. Popcorn and beverages will be provided.
On Dec. 13, Santa Claus is scheduled to join in on the library’s story time hour, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Santa will bring stories and gifts to share with the children. He will also be available for photos.
Choral Christmas Concert
A group of choristers and instrumentalists from the local area are teaming up to put together the ninth annual Choral Christmas Concert, with two concerts scheduled for the evening of Dec. 16 at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41 in Oakhurst.
This year’s program revolves around the theme “Shine On, Christmas Star!”
The team of choristers includes singers from the choirs of New Community United Methodist Church and Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be taken during the event to help cover the costs. The first show begins at 4 p.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m.
Free health seminar
Oakhurst Seventh-day Adventist Church, 50690 Road 426, will hold a free health seminar Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2. Times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Nutritionist Maria Jose Hummel will discuss topics including how to live longer and better, how to reverse chronic diseases and give a cooking demonstration.
The Yosemite Youth Basketball League tips off Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Yosemite High School gyms, with sign-ups for the league scheduled for that same day.
Depending on grade level, players should arrive at the YHS cafeteria at the following times:
- Grades K-1: 11 a.m.
- Grades 2-3: noon
- Grades 4-5: 1 p.m.
- Grades 6-8: 2 p.m.
Lowered baskets are used for players in kindergarten through third grade, while all others will play on regulation-height baskets.
Registration is $40 per player and players should arrive ready to play on Dec. 1.
Registration and clinics will continue on Dec. 8 for those unable to make it on the first Saturday.
