Bluegrass and Americana music legend, Tony Furtado, will perform with fiddling extraordinaire, Luke Price, at Sierra Meadows in Ahwahnee, Sunday April 29, as apart of an ongoing concert series continuing through September.
Furtado, a California native that has been a long time staple of the blooming Portland Ore., bluegrass scene has released 17 albums, toured with A-list talent, performed at the most esteemed roots music festivals and has won the National Bluegrass Banjo Championship twice.
According to Reid Spice, the series presenter, Furtado played at Sierra Meadows in December of 2016 and was so well received Spice was eager to bring him back- and this time with Luke Price, a three time National Fiddle Champion.
Furtado is just as excited to return. His last concert in the area allowed him to deliver his favorite type of performance.
"I like to have folks disappear into the music for a couple hours, I thrive on what I'm feeling from the crowd so its especially nice when the crowd is responsive...that's been the case every time I've played in Ahwahnee," said Furtado.
Spice's hope for the concert series are sincere and community based. Concerts ahead include talented performances from a grab bag of musical genres and some events will raise funds for local groups and schools.
"We are trying to create a family friendly live music option that showcases a wide variety of styles, featuring both local musicians and national touring acts," said Spice. "Our hope is to expose our local youth to great music."
Tickets for Furtado's event are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. There will be food and drink for purchase beginning at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Sierra Meadows' ongoing series is open to all ages and children under 13 are free.
