Jacob Burdett, 25, of Coarsegold, who was arrested yesterday, used a rifle to shoot his mother and kill her boyfriend Friday night.
According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, Burdett has been charged with one count of murder for the homicide of his mother’s boyfriend, and one count of attempted murder for shooting his mother. who is recovering in an area hospital.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, the sheriff’s office responded to the area of Road 416 and Little John Drive in Coarsegold in regards to a family disturbance.
“Apparently this started about a week ago,” Varney said. “A portion of the family moved out of the residence and were on their way back up here and got in an altercation.”
Burdett was transported yesterday and booked in at Madera County Department of Corrections, where he is being held on a combined $2 million bond for both charges.
According to witness statements, there was some type of altercation involving two vehicles traveling on Little John Drive. The lead vehicle stopped at a residence.
There was an altercation involving the occupants, as well as a male from the residence. At one point, a male and female from one of the vehicles was shot.
The identity of the deceased is being with held as deputies try to notify his relatives.
The investigation remains ongoing.
