Vendors sought for Mariposa Butterfly Festival

Organizers of the Mariposa Butterfly Festival are currently accepting vendor applications for artisans interested in participating in the festival. Last year about 10,000 people attended the two-day event. This year’s event is April 30 and May 1.

Festival events include a parade, skateboard competition, 5K run and 12K trail run, art and artisan show, live butterfly releases, live music, quilt show, and a special children’s area.

Cowboy Easter

Oakhurst Lutheran Church will again host the Cowboy Easter concert, 4 p.m., April 17. Performers include Tim Johnson, Arnie Johnson, Duff Neufeld, Rudy Helm, Eddie Guzman, Bobby Black returns (after suffering a broken vertebrae or two in a car accident), and Jimmy Collier.

Limited seating. One performance only. Suggested donation of $20.

St. Patrick’s Day

Crab Cakes Restaurant & Roman’s Bar will offer a corned beef and cabbage lunch and dinner, March 17. Two dollars from each plate plus 10% of bar sales will be donated to the 31st Elegant Auction, which benefits the Oakhurst Community Park.

Drive Smart

The Oakhurst Area California Highway Patrol will host an Age Well Drive Smart driving program for seniors, 10 a.m. - noon, March 3, at the CHP office. The fun, interactive and educational programs reminds seniors how to keep driving longer, while increasing awareness and safety on the roadways.

Litter Clean-up

Keep Our Mountains Beautiful members have scheduled a roadside litter clean-up, 1 p.m., Feb. 28. Volunteers will meet up at the Road 200/Highway 41 Park and Ride for supplies and instructions. Litter will be picked up on sections of Road 200.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library will hold a book sale, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 5, in the library’s community room. Book prices are $1, with children’s books, fifty cents.

Elegant Auction

The 31st Elegant Auction, benefiting Oakhurst Community Park, will be held April 9 at Tenaya Lodge. Complimentary champagne, live music, no host bar, gourmet buffet, dessert bar will be offered, with dancing following the auction.

Storytelling Festival

The 29th Annual Mariposa Storytelling Festival will be held March 11-13. To view and/or print this year’s schedule, visit Mariposa Storytelling Schedule 2016.

The evening shows typically sell-out several weeks before the festival, so order tickets early. No tickets will be sold in Yosemite for Sunday’s (March 13) performance, so pre-order.

Community Baby Shower

The Oakhurst Chapter of Mothers of Preschool Children (MOPS) will host its 5th Annual Community Baby Shower at 9 a.m., March 12, at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41, providing free diapers, wipes, and clothing for families, as well as two lactation consultants offering free services to new or expectant moms.

The event drew more than 150 families last year and organizers are hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.

Thanks again to a large monetary donation from the members of Sierra Vista Church, and the Oakhurst Sunrise Rotary Club, MOPS has purchased 30 new car seats to give away to families during the event.
