The Yosemite Western Artists (YWA) Portrait Show will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the historic Gertrude School on Road 600 in Ahwahnee.
About 20 members of YWA participate in the Portrait Group that meets 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Friday at the Gertrude School to paint live models. The show will feature multiple portraits and sculptures by 11 of those artists.
“I joined the YWA Portrait Group in order to work elbow to elbow with some of the best artists in the Sierra foothills and to be able to work directly with a live model (rather than working from a photo),” artist Juanita Smith said. “This is fulfilling to the extreme for anyone who enjoys art. The camaraderie is fantastic ... we’re like a big family.”
Each person who comes to the show will receive a free ticket which will enter them into a drawing for a portrait done by their choice of a participating artists.
There is no admission charge for the event.
