Director Heather Sconce is planning a Christmas present for residents of the Mountain Area - six performances of Charles Dickens’ musical “A Christmas Carol” in early December.
“It’s time once again for us to create some Christmas magic in these mountains,” Sconce said.
The show is written and composed by the same team that wrote last years’ Christmas hit “It’s a Wonderful Life” - Sconce as director, assistant director Jordan Michel, who played George Bailey in last year’s production, and Ken Marks as production manager.
Auditions for the production will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Sierra Pines Church, 40855 Covey Court, off Highway 49. Call backs will be held 5-10 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at the church.
Sconce encourages members of the community to attend the audition.
“The music is sensational and there are a ton of parts for old and young alike,” Sconce said. “This is an open casting, so anyone in the community may audition. Bring the audition form (find at sierrapineschurch.com) and come prepared to sing no more than 60 seconds of a selected piece of music. Either bring sheet music for our accompanist or a CD.”
The book and Lyrics are by Keith Ferguson, and music by Bruce Greer.
Sconce explained that Ferguson and Greer have created a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 Novella that is faithful to Dickens’ plot and prose, while highlighting both the spiritual and social themes woven throughout this classic.
“The score has many original songs written in a traditional musical theater style, while also carefully integrating familiar carols and songs of Christmas that audiences will recognize and respond to with joy,” Sconce said.
Sconce said the production can also use community members for behind the scenes tech work, seamstresses, and set builders.
