Madera District Fair entries

Have your friends told you that you make the best apple pie they have ever tasted? Are your friends envious of the clothes you have designed or quilt you’ve sewn? Then maybe it’s time to put your hobbies up against others that share your passions in Madera County.

The Madera Distinct Fair’s 2015 Exhibitor Handbook is available now. It is full of creative opportunities for you to participate and show off your skills. Entries are now being accepted online or at the fair’s office in a variety of divisions including livestock, floriculture, arts & crafts, photography and more.

The 2015 Madera District Fair is “Shear Excitement” and the fair is celebrating the role of sheep and wool in the Central Valley’s agriculture community. In this year’s Theme Contest you can paint, draw, build, sew or photograph your way into the Winners Circle with an original project that best depicts sheep or the wool industry. Just be creative and have fun with it for the “Shear Excitement.”

The California Drought is entering its fourth year. What does the California drought look like to you? Can you show our guests, in a photo, the effects this long, devastating drought has had on you, wildlife, or the Valley itself? Or if gardening is more your style, can you build a drought tolerant garden in our floriculture building?

These two contests might inspire others to make changes that will help all of us “Save Our Water” In the age of social media, you will also have the opportunity to instantly participate daily during the Madera Fair. Simply upload your favorite photo captured during Madera Fair 2015 and use the hashtag #maderafair2015. Each day three photos will be selected for first, second and third place ribbons. They will be announced the following day on our Facebook page. After the run of the fair, one of those twelve photos will be selected as the Best of Show and the photo will hang in the fair office for the remainder of the year. So let’s get those camera phones ready.

Teachers, don’t forget to enter your classroom art projects. We encourage you to follow this year’s theme “Shear Excitement,” but all classroom projects are welcome.

The entry deadline for the 2015 Madera District Fair is August 18, 2015 at 6 p.m. The exhibitor Handbooks and Entry Forms are available online at or in person at the Sierra Star.
