Ragtime music will be filling the air at the Oakhurst Community Center next weekend as the Oakhurst Ragtime Festival gets underway.
The first event is Friday, April 10, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a soup and salad supper, followed by the Ragtime Concert at 7 p.m. Friday Tickets are $15 for dinner and concert and may be purchased at Dorsey’s Hallmark, Giftworks or Mountain Feed in Coarsegold, or by phone (559) 683-7860.
A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
Saturday’s events begin at 2 p.m. with an Afternoon Concert ($7.50).
A tri-tip dinner will be served from 5:30-6:30, with Concert following ($25).
Tickets for all three events are discounted to $40. Sunday’s performance will be at the Oakhurst Lutheran Church from 1-3 p.m.(by donation).
Featured pianists are Tom Brier, Jack & Chris Bradshaw and Larisa Migachyov who have performed in Oakhurst in years past at the Fresno Flats Ragtime Festival.
Also featured this year will be the up-and-coming John Reed-Torres.
Joining the pianists will be Steve and Robyn Drivon on drums and tuba and Julia Riley on flute. Solos, duos (on one or two pianos) and various combinations of pianos and instruments are on the bill which features ragtime tunes ranging in styles from the refined Victorian parlors to the most raucous of barrooms.
The festival is sponsored by The Oakhurst Ragtime Association in conjunction with the Gold Dust Dancers and the Oakhurst Community Center, Inc., with support of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce, the Yosemite Sierra Visitor’s Bureau and the Oakhurst Lutheran Church.
