New Year’s Eve in the Mountains

For those who like to bundle-up and leave the house to celebrate New Year’s, many restaurants will offer New Year’s dinner specials and parties throughout the Mountain Area. The California Highway Patrol and Madera County Sheriff’s Department remind everyone they will be out in force, doing all they can to protect the public from people driving under the influence. So have fun, celebrate the arrival of 2015, use a designated driver, buckle up, and be safe.

Alfonso’s Hideaway Mexican Restaurant

Alfonso’s in Coarsegold will serve its regular lunch and dinner menu served till 9 p.m.

New Year’s Eve party includes Karaoke 9 p.m. - 1 a.m., a midnight champagn toast, and breakfast 1 - 2 a.m. Cost for party $15 per person.

Ducey’s on the Lake

Attend one of two free, family friendly Magic Shows in Ducey’s Bar & Grill, at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Ducey’s Restaurant will offer Sunset Specials 4-6 p.m - the menu includes dinner salad, roasted butternut squash soup, and entree choice of prime rib (8 oz), organic roasted chicken breast, grilled salmon, filet (4 oz) and shrimp, or grilled veggie napoleon. Dessert flourless chocolate torte or vanilla bean cheesecake. Cost $26.95.

A four-course New Year’s Eve dinner, prepared by the Executive Chef Johnathan Frabotta, will be served 4-10 p.m - the menu is the same as the Sunset Special, except the first course will include choice of roasted wild mushroom and goat cheese tartlet, jumbo shrimp cocktail, ahi and hamachi poke stack; the prime rib is 14 oz., and instead of shrimp, a Maine lobster will be served. Cost $69.95.

Finish 2014 at “Studio 54 in the Pines,” 9 p.m. - 1 a.m., in the Lakeview Room. Disco music provided by the Executive Rockers. Enjoy the appetizer and dessert bar, photo booth, party favors and fireworks show with a champagne toast at midnight. Cost per person is $20, or free with the Ducey’s four-course dinner.

Elks Lodge

Welcome in the New Year at the Elk’s Dinner and Dance Party in Oakhurst. Enjoy a no host cocktail bar, hors d’oeuvres, a delicious dinner and lots of toasting to bring in 2015. Dancing begins at 8 p.m. with a free salsa lesson. Dinner is chicken cordon bleu with sides, and cheesecake for dessert. Tickets are $25 per person or $20 for Elk members.

Erna’s Elderberry House

Erna’s Elderberry House Restaurant in Oakhurst will offer a special New Year’s Eve Champagne and Masquerade event. Chef de Cuisine Jonathon Perkins and Pastry Chef Russell Wheeler will be serving a seven-course menu, featuring three desserts. There are two seatings - 5 p.m., and 9 p.m. The later seating will offer live music by the Sierra Jazz Trio, include fireworks, a champagne toast at midnight and a few other surprises.

The menu includes Amuse Bouche, Pumpkin Tartlet, Sage, Chestnut Kumomoto Oyster Shot, Green Apple, Mint, Spice Buckwheat Blini, Spruce Cured Salmon, Celery Creme, Osetra Cavlar, Roasted Maine Diver Scallop, Seared Yellowfin Tuna Steak au Poivre, Pomegranate-Thyme Emulsion, Abalone Mushroom, Grilled Pitman Ranch Duck Housemade Sausage, Roasted Filet of Brandt Farms Beef, salad of radicchio and little gem lettuce, chocolate parfait, Cherries Flambe, or Le Dynamite.

Cost is $125 per person for the early seating, and $225 per person for the late seating.

South Gate Brewery

Break out your suits and black dresses for a New Year’s Eve celebration at South Gate Brewing Company in Oakhurst. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with live rock/country/reggae music from Dave T., delicious tray-passed appetizers, and welcoming in the New Year with a midnight champagne toast. $10 cover charge per person includes heavy appetizers, a glass of champagne, live music and noisemakers.

Tenaya Lodge

Tenaya Lodge is offering a New Year’s Eve bash with a Vegas-inspired theme to ring in 2015 with glitz, glamor and fun. The evening will feature upscale dining, cocktails, a performance by award-winning Vegas entertainer, Greg London with “Impressions That Rock,” as well as music by a 14-piece band.

From 7-9 p.m. - cocktails, hosted bar, Surf-n-Turf dinner featuring Australian lobster tail and seared filet mignon as the main entrée.
