The 13th annual Christmas Tree Auction, benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst and other Mountain Area non-profits, will be held this Sunday in the Lake View Room at the Pines Resort, Bass Lake. Doors open at 3 p.m. for the silent auction, raffle, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary champagne, followed by the live auction of hand-decorated full-sized trees, table top trees, and wreaths at 5:30 p.m.
“The inspiring aspect of this event is the collaborative nature of it,” said Melanie Barker, Boys & Girls Club president. “This event is hosted by a non-profit in the Mountain Area to support other local non-profits. It’s an opportunity for these organizations to raise money and create additional awareness for their organizations.”
Each of the live auction items have been created by a different organization or business. The Boys & Girls Club receives a minimum of 25% of the winning bid and the contributing organization’s choice of charity receives the remainder. Some groups allocate 100% of their item’s purchase amount to the club.
Area non-profit organizations benefiting from the event include: Oakhurst Sierra Rotary Club, Children’s Museum of the Sierra, Helping Hands, Mountain Bear Fan Club, Coarsegold Elementary School, Rivergold Elementary School, Wild Wonderful Women Scholarship Fund, Soroptimist International of the Sierras, Yosemite High School Scholarship Fund, Oakhurst Mountain Lions Club, Sierra Lions Club, Sierra Senior Center, Helping One Woman (HOW), 49-Ears Scholarship Fund, Relay for Life, and Mother’s of Preschoolers (MOPS).
“We are so fortunate to live in a community that cares, and we look forward to a fruitful result for all the non-profits that are participating,” Barker said. “If you haven’t been to this event, you are truly missing out. It is so much fun and simply magical.”
More than 10 trees, five table top trees, and seven wreaths will be auctioned. As host, the Boys & Girls Club received approximately $12,000 last year from this event.
Tickets cost $30 per person or four for $100, advance purchase only, and can be purchased at the event or on the website at Facebook.com/TreeAuction.
