County deputy association endorses Linn

The Madera County Deputy Sheriff's Association has endorsed Oakhurst attorney David Linn for district attorney.

Linn is challenging incumbent DA Michael Kietz in the June 3 primary election, as is Miranda Neal, an attorney with the county counsel's office.

The endorsement was made by the association's nine-member board of directors on behalf of the 80-member association during a regular monthly board meeting in late January, according to Madera County Sheriff Detective Tommy Jackson, board member and chairman of the association's political committee

'The board is in place to represent the association's membership,' Jackson said.

Jackson said the entire association will be polled when it comes to an endorsement of a sheriff's candidate to fill the position of retiring four-term Sheriff John Anderson — although it is not known at this time when that endorsement may come.

'We (the association) may or may not endorse (a sheriff's candidate) prior to the primary election,' Jackson said. 'That decision will be made by the membership.'

Earlier this month, the Chowchilla Police Officers Association endorsed Linn.

If a single candidate does not receive 51% or more of the vote in the June 3 primary, the two receiving the most votes will face-off in the Nov. 4 general election.

The Declaration of Candidacy period ends March 7.
