Entertainment returns to downtown Mariposa this weekend with the next installment of the free Music on the Green summer concert series presented by the Mariposa County Arts Council.

This weekend, The Danny Millsap Band performs honky-tonk country on Friday, June 15 and the electric blues band Mike Hammar & The Nails plays Saturday, June 16.

Hammar is a Native American who grew up in Mariposa and brings his band back every summer for a Music on the Green date, according to the arts council. Hammar plays guitar and sings; the band also features a Hammond B3 organ played by Allan “B3 Blues” Carroll.

Mike Hammar & The Nails won the Monterey Bay Blues Festival’s Battle of the Bands in 2009 and 2014, their music is routinely played on American Roots Music Radio and featured on Sirius XM Radio’s BB King’s Bluesville programming.

The group’s song, “This Ain’t Goodbye,” from their second album, “Recipe for the Blues,” was nominated for an Independant Music Award.

The Danny Millsap Band played Music on the Green in 2016.

All Music on the Green performances begin at 7 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) at the Mariposa County Art Park on Highway 140 between 4th and 5th streets. Free parking is on 5th Street along the Creek Walkway to the Park, also providing handicapped access.

The shows are free to the public – tips for the performers will be solicited, encouraged and appreciated, the arts council says.
