Classical music takes center stage June 10 at Oakhurst concert

Mountain Area classical musicians will perform in the free Sierra Foothill Concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church, 39696 Highway 41 in Oakhurst.

Barbara Ulman said that four years ago, the concert presented by the Sierra Foothill Composers’ Co-operative held in the Oakhurst Branch Library was so well attended that audience members had to be turned away. Sierra Vista Presbyterian offers a larger venue.

Ulman’s own music will be featured along with that of composers Scarlatti, Dvorak, Fauré, Schubert, Pierné, Kuri-Aldana and Elgar.

Mountain Area musicians performing include Clyde Lansing, clarinet; Sandy Schaefer, flute; Ulman and Phil Youngholm, piano; and Cathy Walker, organ. Fresno musicians Kelvin Diaz Inoa, cello, and Tiffanie Trujillo, soprano voice, will round out the program.

The concert is sponsored jointly by the Sierra Foothill Composers’ Co-operative and Vision Academy of the Arts. Donations will be accepted to cover costs.
