The Coarsegold Elementary School’s girls ‘A’ soccer team (sixth through eighth graders) had an undefeated season (7-0), including four wins on April 7 to win the Mountain Area Soccer Tournament played at Yosemite High School.
The first win in the tournament for the Courgars was 1-0 over Oak Creek Intermediate School. The team, coached by Mindy Gresham, Kristen Kernaghan, and Jenny Sultana, then beat North Fork Elementary 1-0.
The team won again by the score of 1-0 against Wasuma Elementary, and concluded the tournament and season with a 6-0 win over OCI in the tournament championship game.
According to Hannah Beaumont, a sixth grade player, the most exciting game of the season was against Rivergold Elementary School, with Coarsegold winning 2-1.
“All the girls were pumped up for that game, and we played one of our best games of the year,” Beaumont said.
“The team has done a marvelous job this year going undefeated and winning the tournament,” Gresham said.
The school’s ‘B’ team (fourth and fifth graders) also had an undefeated season going 3-0.
“Both our A and B teams had a great season going undefeated, and celebrating with ice cream parties,” Gresham said.
