The Yosemite High softball team (3-8) went 2-for-4 at the Jackson Tournament, held March 24 and 25.
The Lady Badgers opened the tournament with a 7-0 win over Rio Americano High School of Sacramento.
Junior catcher Katie Thompson went 4-for-4 with two singles and two triples, scoring once, and recording three RBIs.
Senior shortstop Lynette Combs went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double, with one RBI.
On defense, Combs and Thompson teamed up twice, with Combs fielding a hit and throwing to Thompson at home plate for two outs. Thompson also threw out an Americano runner attempting to steal second, and the Lady Badgers also had two double plays in the game.
Center fielder Sarah Meeks helped the cause batting 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, and freshman Angelina McBride was 1-for-2, scoring twice.
Pitcher Courtney Herrera faced 21 batters, giving up three hits, no walks, and striking out two.
In game two of the tournament, pitcher Michaela Gray faced 22 batters and threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts, and every girl in the lineup scored a run in the Badger’s 11-1 victory over the Delta Charter Dragons.
Combs went 3-for-4, scoring once with two RBIs, and Meeks went 2-for-3, scoring twice.
Freshman Tori Arredondo hit two singles with an RBI, senior and first year player Shelby Biscaglio had a single, and an RBI, as did sophomore Caitlyn Burns.
In game three, Yosemite was ready to play the tournament home team, Argonaut High, even with one Badger player out with an injury and one player missing the game due to illness.
Argonaut won the game 8-7.
In a highly competitive game, the score flipped back-and-forth throughout the game. In the first two innings, the Badgers pulled off two double plays, with sophomore Amaya Chenot assisting in seven outs, and Lemos assisting in eight.
Yosemite pitcher Courtney Herrera got the loss after facing 33 batters giving up eight hits with one strikeout.
Combs and Thompson again led the Badgers, each going 3-for-4 at the plate. Combs scored three runs and had three RBIs.
Chenot and Arredondo each went 2-for-4 with Chenot recording three RBIs. McBride scored one run and had an RBI.
In the last game of the tournament, Yosemite ran into the 10-1 Escalon Cougars and their pitcher, who had a perfect game against the Badgers with the Cougars winning 14-0.
Over the past five games, both Combs and Thompson are batting over .700 including a combined three triples and three doubles.
Yosemite hosts Fresno Christian at 4 p.m. Friday in a non-league game. On April 5 the team goes on the road to play a 4 p.m. game at Minarets, and then to Laton April 8.
The team opens North Sequoia League play at home against Liberty at 4 p.m., April 12.
