The Yosemite High School girls tennis team (3-6, 1-5 NSL) split league games last week, defeating Washington Union on Sept. 22, and losing to league-leading Chowchilla Sept. 24.
Yosemite soundly beat Union 8-1 with the No. 2 through No. 6 players (Ari Bhalla, Kendal Miller, Emily Neff, Jenn Springer, Madilyn Sloas) all winning their matches.
In doubles play, Yosemite’s No. 1, 2, and 3 teams all won. Lauren Wharton and Bhalla won 8-6, Miller/Springer won 8-3, and Chloe Pieper/Charlotte Borough won 8-2.
Chowchilla (5-1 NSL), coached by Alisha Taylor, visited Oakhurst last Thursday, and swept the Badgers 9-0. Chowchilla’s top three players, all seniors, are Megan Pope, Stephany Amezcua, and Esmeralda Macias.
“Our young team ... six of our top eight varsity players are sophomores ... is improving everyday,” Coach Aaron Eames said.
The Badgers play their last home match today (Thursday), hosting Kerman at 3:30 p.m., and finish the season on the road at Sierra on Sept. 6, and at Union Sept. 8.
