The No. 1 seed Yosemite High School tennis team (18-1, 10-0 North Sequoia League) fell one match short of playing for the Central Section D-IV championship.
In the section semi-final round, played at Yosemite on May 12 against Selma (No. 5 seed), the No. 1 seed Badgers found themselves down 5-1 after the individual matches, which solidified the win for Selma before the doubles matches. The win came from No. 6 player Sam De Vito. Chase Lassos and Aaron Bausch lost their singles matches in tiebreakers.
The teams split the doubles matches, with Selma advancing to the section title game with the 6-3 win over Yosemite.
Lassos and Bausch won at No. 2 doubles, and Alex Williams and Oliver Curley won at No. 3 doubles for the Badgers.
On May 5, Yosemite dominated the No. 8 seed Fowler Redcats 8-1 in the Central Section quarterfinal match.
Selma got to the semi-finals by defeating No. 4 seed Wasco. Selma went on to play in the D-IV championship game, losing to No. 2 seed Chowchilla.
The Yosemite team, coached by Aaron Eames and Stan Lawrence, was NSL Champions after an undefeated season leading up to the section semi-final match with Selma. It was the first time since 1994 that Yosemite won a league title in boys tennis. A section title would have been a first for boys tennis in the 39-year history of the school.
