The Yosemite High Track and Field team competed at the 61st Annual Sanger Easter Classic Invitational held March 27 at Dodson Field. The meet, like most YHS competes in early season, contained a number of large school track powers. The meet also emphasizes relay events and a number of individual events are not run.
YHS had a number of top 10 finishes, with junior Sayda Taylor having the highest finish for the Badgers tying for third in the high jump with Buchanan’s Jameson Mahlum at 5-1, three inches off her personal best of 5-4.
YHS head coach Cari Rumohr was pleased with the results. “Alli Ruiz (300 meter hurdles) and Dustin Leroy (discus) both had personal bests in the meet,” Rumohr said. “We were also pleased with our frosh/soph boys. They had their fastest time this season in the 4x100 meter relay (47.8). They performed well against tough varsity competition.”
Clovis High won the race in 43.02.
Ruiz had a productive day finishing fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.72, placing her No. 5 on the school record list for the event.
Ruiz, along with Chloe Duke, Abby Rumohr, and Sayda Taylor were seventh in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.70. Buchanan won the event in 49.15.

“I am praying for this beautiful weather to hold through Friday,” said Coach Rumohr. “We are confident the meet will run as smoothly as it has in the past, and we appreciate all the volunteers from YHS and the community graciously offering their time and support to make this meet happen. Our parents will be staffing the concession stands and all proceeds from the meet will go back into the track budget.”
The 14th annual Yosemite Mountain Invitational is scheduled for Friday, April 6, at Badger Stadium, and will feature 10 schools.
