Al Veater died July 26 at the age of 86. He was born Feb. 26, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elvira and George, who purchased what is now Veater Ranch in Coarsegold in the late 1930s.
In 1950, Mr. Veater won the bull riding event at the first Fresno State University Rodeo, later graduating with a degree in animal husbandry. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War.
Ranching was his life, and his hobby.
Mr. Veater was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother, George.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda; his children Cathy of Gerber, Tammy Loveland and husband Ty, George and wife Kara, Carl and wife Nancy, all of Coarsegold, and Amy of Palo Alto; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and older sister, Rae Millar of Fresno.
Memorial services were held earlier in the week.
