Arnold L. Guynn, an Oakhurst resident for 29 years, died Nov. 17, 2015 at the age of 81. He was born in Hollydale, and received his Master’s Degree from USC in public administrations, and his PhD from Golden Gate University.
He worked as a Los Angeles County sheriff officer from 1956-62, and then as a California Highway Patrol officer from 1962-72. Following his retirement, Mr. Guynn trained men and women of law enforcement. He was instrumental in establishing fire training at Allan Hancock College.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Guynn, and his daughter, Julia.
Mr. Guynn is survived by his children: Cyndee Guynn of Santa Ynez; Dana Barrus and spouse Kim of Lebanon, Tenn.; James Guynn and spouse Callie of Washington, Utah; Michael Guynn and spouse Anne of Solvang; Lisa Gherlone and spouse Drew of Solvang; and Jeffrey Guynn and spouse Anne of North Fork; his brother Don Guynn and spouse Eleanor of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst.
