Wayne Vernell Varney died June 26, 2015 at the age of 88. He was born March 26, 1927 in Isabella County, Mich., to Hattie (Nevins) and Herbert.
Mr. Varney graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, and served as a Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy during WWII, as well as a corporal in the US Army during the Korean War.
He was a store manager with Kroger, salesman for HJ Heinz and Kraft Foods, and retired as a partner in a general insurance agency.
He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, traveling in his motor home, and spending time with family.
Mr. Varney is survived by his sons, David and wife Colleen of Chicago, Ill., and Jay and wife Amy of Chowchilla; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held July 1 in Lansing, Michigan. Remembrances can be made in his name to South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Drive, Lansing, Mich., to Pointman Leadership Institute in Hume Lake, or to a VFW of choice.
