A suspect, Albaro Molino, believed to be involved in a shooting this morning on Avenue 7 between Road 24 and Road 25 has been apprehended by Madera County Sheriff Office deputies.
According to the sheriff’s department, at about 8 a.m. this morning, the office received a call regarding a vehicle collision and an associated shooting at the above location. The California Highway Patrol had initially received the call of a collision, and when officers arrived on scene, they found a female occupant of one of the vehicles had been shot, and that the suspect had crashed his vehicle and fled the scene.
Sheriff deputies along with CHP officers including H40 (helicopter), established a perimeter around the location of the incident. Several other agencies were called to assist including Fresno Sheriff’s Office K9 units, Madera Police Department officers from their Special Investigations Unit, and the Madera County DA’s office investigators.
Investigators found that Molino had encountered the other vehicle near Avenue 7 and Road 25 and had got into an argument with the male and female occupant over relationship issues.
According to Madera County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Bill Ward, further investigation confirmed that the female victim was the sister of Molino. It does not appear that she was the intended target.
Molino then fired several rounds into the vehicle, striking the female passenger. The male driver accelerated to leave the scene, but Molino followed them and the vehicles struck each other several times.
As the vehicles continued down Avenue 7, Molino’s vehicle struck a PG&E power pole and overturned. Molino was ejected and then fled the scene on foot.
He was later apprehended about a half mile away from the crash site and taken to the hospital for injuries he apparently received during the vehicle crash.
The female victim suffered one gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in Fresno, where she is expected to make a full recovery. Molino will be booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections for attempted murder.
