An Oakland man was arrested after sheriff’s deputies found nearly 2,400 marijuana plants inside two Oakhurst homes, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday, deputies performed two search warrants in the 48000 block of Road 620, and located Wei Jian Xiu, 56, tending to 2,396 marijuana plants, a firearm, and over $900 at two residences.
County inspectors found the homes uninhabitable due to faulty wiring and illegal building conditions. Black mold, noted as extremely harmful to humans by sheriff’s deputies, was found inside the buildings, as well as waste from the growing operation thrown into a nearby creek.
Xiu was charged with possession and cultivation of marijuana, and booked into Madera County Jail on $100,000 bail.
