A North Fork man was airlifted in critical condition Friday night after he crashed off the eastern side of Highway 41 south of Road 425B in the Deadwood area around 10:30 p.m. in a purple 1940 Ford Coupe truck.
Herbert Curry, 88, was traveling northbound on the highway at an unknown speed. He turned to the right and flew off the roadway some 30 to 50 feet, and was ejected from the vehicle due to not wearing his seatbelt, CHP reports said.
Curry was lifted by gurney from the wreck by emergency responders, then transported by Sierra Ambulance to a SkyLife helicopter waiting at Vons in Oakhurst, which took him to Community Regional Medical Center of Fresno with major injuries.
Further details were not available. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
