Valentine's Day may be a curse for some or a day of joy for others but this year the Mountain Area offers up happiness for everyone. Whether you are in love or single, here are some local things to do.
Attend a lecture and cooking demo by nationally praised, Lindsey Smith, author of Eat Your Feelings, at Branches Books & Gifts on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 1-4 p.m.. There's no better time to treat yourself to self-love and that starts at the beginning- with food. Hear Lindsey's journey and watch her cook up recipes from her latest book.
Get mixing with everyone
Get your picture taken with your valentine or capture your single pride in a love themed photo booth, as you enjoy complimentary appetizers and live music by Taken Roads. The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce will host its free Joint Mixer Thursday, Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A ball with your sweetheart
Enjoy a delightful night with your sweetheart as you sip cocktails, dine on BBQ tri-tip and dance to the live country music of Western Connection. Oakhurst’s Elks Lodge will host its Annual Sweethearts Ball on Friday Saturday, Feb. 16. Cocktails start at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and live country music and dancing begins at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices vary, $8 to $19, based on desired events.
Drink wine with friends or lovers
Madera Wine Trail is offering their 16th annual Wine and Chocolate weekend. Winery tours, scenic views, food pairings and chocolate samplings make for a romantic Valentine’s day escape, Feb. 10 and 11. Tickets are $25 in advance (they can be purchased online) and $30 the day of the event.
