December 16, 1945 ~ January 10, 2018
Joyce Panattoni Barker passed away in Fresno, CA on January 10, 2018 at the age of 72. She was born in San Jose, California to Oliver and Josephine (Chiaramonte) Panattoni on December 16, 1945.
Joyce was an Oakhurst resident since 2002, having moved from San Jose, CA following 30+ years of employment as an Administrator with Santa Clara County.
Joyce was an active member of the Oakhurst Elks Lodge 2724. She served as Secretary and most recently as Exalted Ruler until August, 2017. She loved her volunteer work with the Elks and could often be found working in the kitchen or at the greeters’ table. Joyce was no-nonsense when performing her job duties as ER, but always made lodge members and guests feel welcome with her engaging smile and welcoming voice.
Joyce was in her element when she was entertaining family and friends. She loved to cook, enjoyed travel, shopping, art, beating anyone who dared play cribbage, and rooting for the SF Giants and 49ers. Inside her home, a sign reads “What Happens at Nonni’s, Stays at Nonni’s!” She had perfected the art of spoiling her grandkids. Also lovingly referred to as “Auntie Joyce,” she had 78 nieces and nephews, whom she also frequently doted on!
Joyce was beloved wife to Grayden Barker for 21 years and was stepmother to Tiffany (husband Brian) Aske of Issaquah, WA and Robert (wife Nancy) Barker of La Jolla, CA. Loving sister to JoAnne (husband George) Bumb of San Jose, CA and late sister Carol (husband Russell) Weigel. She was also a devoted Godmother to George (wife Kimberly) Bumb III of San Jose, CA and Michele (husband Joshua) Armstrong of Gardnerville, NV. She will be forever cherished by her many nieces, nephews and three step-grandchildren Ashlyn, Tristan and Aharon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Josie and her sister Carol.
Joyce's vivacious spirit, warm heart, sharp wit, and loving disposition placed her at the center of all her treasured friends and loved ones and for this she will be truly missed.
A service and private internment was held in San Jose, CA in January.
A memorial service for Joyce will be held at the Oakhurst Elks Lodge on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 1:00pm.
Remembrances can be made in her name to Lung Force of The American Lung Association.
