The Yosemite High boys varsity soccer team (8-6, 2-2 North Sequoia League) opened league play with a 3-0 loss at Kerman on Jan. 10, but followed that with a 3-0 win against Sierra on Raupp Field on Jan. 12.
Matt Williams, Chris Ward and Henry Curley scored the three goals against Sierra.
At Liberty High - Madera Ranchos on Jan. 15, the Badgers came from a 1-0 deficit at half to score 3 goals in the second half, securing a hard fought win against the Hawks.
Michael Stieler came up with two goals on assists by midfielder Orion Cicoletti, and Henry Curley headed in the third goal from an in-swinging corner kick by Lucas Lehigh.
On Jan. 19, the Badgers played well and had many chances in front of the goal, but weren’t able to find the back of the net against enough times, losing to Washington Union 4-1.
“This team is very competitive and we are looking forward to our second game with Union,” said Coach David Cicoletti. “Sophomore goalie Jensen Pincus has repeatedly pulled off some incredible saves and is helping keep out playoff hopes very much alive.”
With six games left in league play, the Badgers played Chowchilla Wednesday and is hosting the rematch with Kerman Friday.
