This Friday at 6 p.m., the Yosemite High girls basketball team (17-6, 3-0 North Sequoia League) hosts the Kerman Lions in a game pitting last year’s North Sequoia League co-champions.
With two wins last week, the Badgers sit on top of the league standings with a 3-0 league record, going into the Chowchilla game which was played on Tuesday (results not available at press time).
Kerman will be led by 6-foot sophomore Breanna Hurt who is averaging 22 points a game. The Lions also have a 6-foot-1 center Morgan Turner so Yosemite will have their hands full in the post where a trio of 5-foot-10 Badgers, seniors Allison Bernardi, Sienna Oswald and junior Hailey Rich, have rotated in the two spots.
Yosemite will need scoring from their perimeter players, juniors Grace fries, Lilly Graffigna and Sophie McGoldrick to be successful.
Last Friday, Fries and McGoldrick each scored 13 points to lead the way to a 55-50 victory over a 16-3 Washington Union team.
Yosemite opened up a 17-8 first quarter lead and had to overcome foul trouble and four missed free throws in the 4th quarter to hang on to the win. Graffigna had 7 assists before fouling out in the 4th quarter.
Earlier in the week the Badgers coasted to a 65-24 win over Liberty. The team had balanced scoring with Rich the only player in double figures with 14 points while Fries and Graffigna had 9 and Bernardi, Oswald and McGoldrick each scored 8. Kelsey Montalto added 6.
Next week the Badgers have home games on Tuesday against Sierra at 6 p.m., and Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Liberty.
