The Mountain Area continues to rally behind the family of Ruby Alvarez, with a large fundraiser including live music planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Oakhurst Community Park.
On June 18, Alvarez was killed in a three-car wreck on Highway 41 south of Road 200. Her 2-year-old daughter Lucy remains in intensive care at Valley Children’s Hospital, prompting an outpouring of community support.
“People have been so generous,” said Abby Lovell, who’s helping organize the fundraiser. “The Alvarez family is very humble, and we’re doing everything we can as a community to come together and help them.”
Lovell said the event will help fund medical costs for Lucy, as well as any other expenses incurred from the tragic wreck.
The fundraiser will include a silent auction, raffles, vendors, and other contributions with all proceeds, including food and other sold items going to the Alvarez family.
Funeral services for Alvarez were held June 30 at Our Lady of the Sierra Church in Oakhurst, followed by a fundraiser and reception at Form Fitness, where she was the general manager.
A GoFundMe page was quickly set up after the wreck June 18, and raised more than $10,000 by Tuesday.
Further donations are accepted by visiting www.gofundme.com/k06yaw, or at the Golden 1 Credit Union by making contributions in the name of Ruby Alvarez.
Lovell thanked dozens of sponsors throughout the Mountain Area for their donations, including gift certificates and a 43-inch tower fan to be raffled or auctioned at the fundraiser.
