Though neighbors did all they could to help, a home on Chickadee at Bass Lake owned by a longtime resident was claimed by a blaze Monday afternoon.
Shortly before noon, the home’s owner, Don Weaver, noticed smoke coming from its roof, less than a mile from The Pines Resort.
Neighbors and Weaver used hoses to try and extinguish the flames to little success, as the blaze quickly gained strength.
After about an hour, firefighters managed to control the flames and cleaned up the area, though the home was lost.
Weaver didn’t live in the home - he resided next door - and no injuries were reported during the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
