Sandwich fans in Oakhurst will have another option next week when Deli Delicious, a popular Valley chain, opens in the former Jamba Juice location at 40208 Highway 41.
Franchisee Nachhatar “Nat” Sangha said the shop passed final county inspections this week, and the gourmet deli will open its doors at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2.
“It’s exciting to be able to open to the community,” said Sangha, who lives in Fresno with his wife and co-owner Mona. “It’s a really nice town. We look forward to getting to know everyone around here and become a part of this area.”
Sangha said it’s taken months to completely gut the former Jamba Juice, but now that everything is nearly finished, customers can expect high-quality dining and service in a relaxed, casual environment.
“People are going to love great sandwiches and great service,” Sangha said. “Service is big for us. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted, and you’re going to enjoy a delicious sandwich in a great atmosphere.”
The Oakhurst Deli Delicious will have nine employees, and plans to add more in the future, Sangha said. Its hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, though Sangha said he may keep the shop open later during the busy summer season.
Since 2009, Deli Delicious has won every year for People’s Choice - Best Sandwich in the Fresno Bee. Among its highlights are fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, coupled with its tri-tip and chicken which is slow-marinated and grilled every day, as well as sides such as sweet potato or beer-battered fries.
Deli Delicious has experienced rapid growth since its first store opened in Fresno in 1995. After it began franchising in 2008, 35 shops have sprouted up from the Sacramento area to Bakersfield, with plans for an additional 60 across California.
The menu includes a wide variety of ingredients, from barbecue or Monterey ranch chicken to vegetarian specialties with avocado, sprouts, cucumber, and cream cheese, as well as several other cheese selections.
Breads include white or wheat French rolls, sourdough, Dutch crunch, or a lettuce wrap. Each sub includes usual ingredients such as lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, peppers, and condiments.
Sandwich sizes range from 4 to 12 inches, with prices starting at $5.50 for the 4-inch version and $12 for 12 inches, which the company said is enough to satisfy at least two customers. Most sandwiches are customized to order. Salads and catering options are available as well.
