It has come to the attention of the Madera Country Sheriff’s Office that individuals are contacting Madera County property owners, claiming their property is scheduled to be sold at a tax auction on May 14, if unpaid property taxes fees are not paid.
The individuals making the calls are not affiliated with nor authorized by Madera County to contact property owners. If you are contacted by one of these individuals, do not provide them with any personal information or make any payments for alleged unpaid taxes - instead, immediately contact either the sheriff’s office (559) 675-7770, or the Madera City Police Department (559) 675-4200.
According to Madera County Treasurer-Tax Collector Tracy Kennedy, the scam includes callers telling residents that the county will be having an online ‘tax defaulted land sale’ May 14 through May 17, though the sale has not been advertised, and the number of parcels offered for sale has not been determined.
Kennedy said once the ‘official’ parcel list is finalized, property owners may access www.madera-county.com/treasurer, and select Online Tax Sale on the menu, to see if their parcel is included.
If you are concerned that your property is included in the upcoming ‘official’ tax sale, call the Madera County Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office at (559) 675-7713.
